Ipswich Achievements highlighted in Q150 exhibitions

The Workshops Rail Museum will celebrate Q150 and Ipswich's contribution to the development of the state with three displays from the Queensland State Archives, 29 September - 25 October.

On loan from the Queensland State Archives, the Top 150: Documenting Queensland, Our Queensland and Queensland Firsts exhibitions depicts Queensland's history in different ways.

The Top 150: Documenting Queensland exhibition is a collection of Queensland's top 150 historical documents presented as a timeline of the decisions, events, people and places that shaped Queensland's identity.

Our Queensland is a visual journey through photographs from the archives of The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail, chronicling this state's influential cultural, political, environmental and sporting moments.

Queensland Firsts looks back over 150 Queensland 'firsts', achievements and milestones that shaped the state.

Director of The Workshops Rail Museum, Mr Andrew Moritz said the Museum was delighted to celebrate Q150 with these displays which feature many of Ipswich's achievements.

"Each exhibition has a wonderful link to the Ipswich Railway Workshops and the local area, particularly the momentous occasion of the opening of the first railway in Queensland in 1865 and photographs of the site are highlighted in each exhibition," Mr Moritz said.

Entry to all displays is free after general Museum entry, which is $18.50 for adults, $15.50 for concession card holders and $10.00 for children aged 3 to 16.

Proudly commissioned by Queensland State Archives through the Department of Public Works, Top 150: Documenting Queensland is touring South-East Queensland throughout 2009 in conjunction with the Queensland Newspapers exhibition Our Queensland, and the Queensland Firsts exhibition.

The Top 150: Documenting Queensland, Queensland Firsts and Our Queensland exhibitions are proudly sponsored by Queensland State Archives, Q150, The Courier-Mail, The Sunday Mail and The Brisbane Institute.

The Workshops Rail Museum, part of the Queensland Museum, is the winner of the 2008 Queensland Tourism Award for Heritage & Cultural Tourism. For further information, visit www.theworkshops.qm.qld.gov.au or phone (07) 3432 5100.
