A10 No 6 locomotive
This locomotive has a special place in the history of rail in Queensland.
It was one of four similar locomotives imported from Scotland. These locomotives began operating between Ipswich and Helidon in 1866 and then to Toowoomba in 1867.
This locomotive worked for several years on the main lines in southern and western Queensland before it was replaced by larger and more powerful locomotives.
It was used to haul materials for the construction of the Fassifern Valley branch line and the South Coast line. In 1896, it was purchased by the Bingera sugar mill in the Bundaberg district to move cane to the mill and sugar to the port.
Occasionally it is missing from the Museum, to go out on show or work hauling a special train.
A10 No6 is the oldest working locomotive in Australia.
