Annual Workers Reunion & Ipswich Heritage Faire

Visit the birthplace of rail in Queensland to honour the hard work and dedication of our state's railway workers.

We welcome back the Ipswich Heritage Faire as part of the event to celebrate the rich and diverse history of Queensland’s oldest provincial city.


  • Ipswich residents FREE (proof of residency is required on entry)
  • Past and present Queensland Rail workers: FREE
  • Non-Ipswich residents: Please see general Museum entry prices.

Event activities

  • Ipswich Heritage Faire activities including entertainment, heritage displays and children’s activities.
  • Workers at The Workshops photographic exhibition.
  • Rebirth of a Queensland Icon film, screening continuously in the Museum Theatrette.
  • Discover Ipswich stands.
  • Community drawing activity – add your family to the picture! Create an Ipswich Railway Workshops worker and add it to our community portrait of Ipswich and The Workshops.
  • Tell us your story - we invite past and present Queensland Rail workers to share memories of thier experience working at the site.
  • Tours of Queensland Rail’s active heritage workshops (enclosed footwear required).
  • Queensland Rail workers morning tea.
  • View the Powerhouse, built in 1904 to supply electric, hydraulic and compressed air power to the Ipswich Railway Workshops.

Special activity

Workers Steam Train

Charges apply
Board a magnificently restored Steam Train for a one and a half hour round trip through the scenic country side west of Ipswich to historic Grandchester then return to the Museum to enjoy the action at the Annual Workers Reunion & Heritage Faire.

Please note tickets do not include entry into the Museum, however Museum entry is free on the Annual Workers Reunion & Heritage Faire day for Ipswich residents, plus past and present Queensland Rail workers.
