The BIG Build

Regular performances daily
Join the Works Manager and his new apprentice fitter in the massive task of completing construction of a life-sized A10 locomotive. They might require a bit of help
from you!

Apprentice Training Shops

9:30am to 5:00pm daily
Earn your very own take-home Trade Certificate by trying your hand at stencilling, painting, wagon building, plumbing, simulated welding and rope tying.

Construction Challenge Engineering Shop

10:00am to 4:00pm daily
Show your construction skills and build trains, cranes, bridges, tunnels, railway stations and roundhouses using K’nex, Lego or Straws systems.

Boilershop Dash

9:30am to 5:00pm daily
On your mark, get set – go! Just like a new apprentice, discover the hidden secrets of the exhibits in the original Boilershop, finding wooden patterns, bogies, boilers and more.

The Design Office

9:30am to 5:00pm daily
Create your own cardboard take-home train model of a locomotive, carriages and wagons.

Mystery Object

9:30am to 5:00pm daily
Can you guess what the current Mystery Object might be? Who might have used it? How old is it?

Build it! Steam Train

Wednesday 4 July
Climb aboard the heritage Steam Train as it travels from The Workshops Rail Museum to scenic Grandchester. Ticket does not include entry into the Museum or the Build it! event.
