It’s Official! Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends™ are World Record Breakers

In November 2010, Thomas the Tank Engine ran on the Worlds Longest Toy Train Track, constructed at The Workshops Rail Museum by a team of railway modellers.

Guinness Book of World Records has verified the record and to celebrate the achievement, Sir Topham Hatt, The Fat Controller presented the official certificate..

Fast facts about the track

  • It was 2.014kms long.
  • It was 364 metres longer than the previously-held record, which was built at Mediage/Aqua City, Odaiba, Japan on 23 August 2006. 
  • It used 10,197 pieces of Thomas the Tank Engine™ Fisher-Price® TrackMaster™ track.
  • It took a team of 20 people 214 hours to build.
  • The space used for the track spanned 35m long x 5m wide.
  • The total length was six times the height of the Eiffel Tower, five times higher than the Empire State Building, five and a half times the height of Uluru and long enough to surround the Melbourne Cricket Ground four times.
